Our Sustainability Story
Every piece of One Nature jewelry has a history — from the relationship with the designer, to the hands of the craftspeople, to the life of the wearer.
We design each of our collections with the intention of creating heirlooms that speak to the connection we all have with NATURE, while we maintain our focus on being a socially responsible organization.
Our Approach
Recycled Precious Metals
Mining silver damages the environment, causing pollution, deforestation and erosion. It uses a lot of resources, like water, energy and chemicals; and silver is not a renewable commodity. Silver mining is also dangerous and prone to worker exploitation.
We use recycled sterling silver in all our jewelry, which provides an 86% reduction in emissions compared to mining operations.
Ethical Gemstones
Precious gems like diamonds, rubies and emeralds have a history of conflict and other social problems. Instead, we work with semi-precious gemstones and up to 80% are mined using hand tools, reflecting a lower impact on the environment. There are still environmental and social issues, so we support Pact as another method of protecting the environment, the workers and the communities that are involved in Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM).
Eco-Friendly Packaging
Environmentally-friendly, One Nature jewelry boxes are made in Denmark with either recycled paper products or materials sanctioned by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®), which is the organization behind responsible forestry worldwide. Carrying this mark guarantees that these products come from an FSC® forest, where no more wood is cut down than the forest can reproduce. This means better protection of animal and plant life.
Together We Offer Support
We give a percentage of profits quarterly to one of these two highly-ranked charitable organizations, who work tirelessly to protect the environment on the one hand and the communities that are engaged in supplying the jewelry industry on the other.
The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental non-profit that works to conserve the land and waters on which all life depends. It is highly rated by charity watchdog groups and is one of the most respected, effective and wide-reaching environmental organizations in the world.
Pact is an international nonprofit that works in nearly 40 countries building solutions that improve accountability, and strengthen knowledge and skills for sustainable social impact in the many Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) communities.
